Our Story

Background

The concept for LION Digital Media (formerly LION New Media) was originally conceived by Founding Partner, Conrad Jungmann, when he was working as Group Product Manager for MSNBC in 2005/6. In that role, he worked with national advertising agencies and big brand clients on a wide variety of digital advertising campaigns.

Advertising agency clients required solutions with a geographic boundary (DMA, state, region or territory), yet the tools to do so on a large scale did not exist at the time. Conrad had run thousands of successful campaigns local media websites, so he put together a business plan for a unique company that would make local media buying easy effective and efficient.

Founding and Beyond

LION opened its doors in August 2006 in Lynnwood, Wash. Within a month of inception, Internet veteran Michael Koontz joined the company as Partner and Executive Vice President. For the first six months, the company focused on building the media buying database and systems later to be known as LIONshare®. LION’s first client was KFC in the Seattle market.

In October 2009, advertising veteran Greg Griffin joined the company as Partner and Vice President of Sales. After changing names in 2012, LION Digital Media remains self-funded and privately held by the executive team.
